This policy explains how Volume Mixer & Audio Control for macOS (bundle identifier org.qolapps.VolumeMixer) handles information. The app is developed by Lav Chaudhary (QOL Apps). Audio processing takes place on your Mac. The app has no account, cloud sync, advertising, or third-party analytics, and does not send audio or mixer settings to the developer.
Information the app accesses
To show and control audio sources, the app uses macOS Core Audio and system app information to read:
- The names, bundle identifiers, process identifiers, icons, and playback status of apps producing audio. The optional Show background processes setting also shows audio services and helper processes.
- The names and system identifiers of available audio output devices, the current default output, and available system volume information.
- Output audio from an app when you adjust that app’s volume, mute it, or route it to a chosen output. The app uses a macOS process audio tap to apply the requested control and play the result through the selected output.
The app processes audio samples in memory as they play. It does not record audio to a file, transcribe it, inspect its content for advertising or analytics, or send it to us. It does not request microphone input. Audio sent to an output device, including a device connected over Bluetooth or a network, is handled by macOS and that device.
macOS may ask you to allow System Audio Recording when audio control first starts. After you have enabled control, saved per-app settings may be applied again when the app launches and those apps play audio. You can pause audio control in the app or revoke its access in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.
Information stored on your Mac
The app stores mixer preferences using standard macOS app preferences (UserDefaults). These include each configured app’s bundle identifier, volume level, mute state, and chosen output device identifier, plus whether audio control and background-process display are enabled. It also stores a local flag indicating whether an audio route has worked before. macOS manages the optional Start at Login setting and may restore the app window’s position and size.
These settings remain on your Mac unless you change or remove them. The app does not upload them or sync them through a developer service. Transient process identifiers, playback status, and current audio samples are used to operate the mixer; they are not saved as a listening history. Standard macOS backups may include local app preferences according to your backup settings.
Diagnostics
If an audio route has a buffer underrun, the app may write the affected app’s bundle identifier and an underrun count to the local macOS unified log. It does not log audio content. macOS controls retention of system logs. The app does not automatically send these logs to us. If you choose to share diagnostic information with Apple or send logs to us for support, that sharing is subject to your choice and the recipient’s handling of the information.
Data collection, sharing, and purchases
The app does not collect personal data on our servers, sell data, track you across apps or websites, or integrate an advertising, analytics, or crash-reporting SDK. It has no built-in network service. We do not receive your audio, app list, device list, or saved mixer preferences through the app.
If you obtain the app through the Mac App Store, Apple handles the purchase, download, and any App Store diagnostics or analytics under Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not receive your payment-card information through this app. Apple may provide us with App Store sales or diagnostics reports, depending on its services and your settings.
Support and website visits
If you contact us for support or a privacy question, we receive the email address, message, and any files or details you choose to send. We use them to respond, investigate the issue, and meet applicable obligations. Please avoid sending audio recordings or other sensitive content unless needed for your request. You can ask us to delete your support correspondence by contacting us again.
If you visit a QOL Apps webpage, including this policy or the contact page, the website and its hosting providers may process standard web requests, logs, and cookies. Website practices are described separately in the QOL Apps website privacy policy. Visiting the website is not required to use the app’s audio controls.
Your choices and retention
You can reset an individual app’s volume and output settings using Reset Volume and Output, pause audio control, turn off Start at Login, or revoke System Audio Recording permission in macOS. Local preferences can remain after you uninstall the app; contact us if you need help removing them. Audio samples are discarded after processing. Local diagnostic log retention is controlled by macOS. We keep support correspondence only as needed to respond to requests and meet applicable obligations.
Children
The app is a general-purpose Mac utility and is not directed specifically to children. It does not collect personal data through the app.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy if the app’s features or data practices change. The current version and effective date will appear on this page. Material changes to the app’s data handling will be reflected in the policy and, where appropriate, the app or App Store listing.
