SnoreScout keeps your sleep audio on your device.

For SnoreScout, a sleep sound recorder and snore analyser by QOL Apps. All audio recording and analysis happens on your device — your audio is never uploaded to us or anyone else. There are no accounts, no ads, and no third-party tracking.

What the app accesses, and why

Microphone. With your permission, the app uses the microphone to listen for sleep sounds during a recording session. Audio is analysed on your device in real time. The app keeps only short sound clips of detected events (snoring, sleep-talk, or other loud sounds) plus numeric summaries (a nightly score, timestamps, loudness, event counts). You can revoke microphone access at any time in the iOS Settings app.

Purchases (subscriptions). If you buy SnoreScout Pro, the transaction is handled by Apple through StoreKit and the App Store. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Apple provides us with a subscription entitlement status so the app can unlock Pro features.

What we collect and store

On your device only:

  • Audio clips of detected sound events, stored in the app's private storage on your device.
  • Derived data: nightly snore score, event timeline, event classifications (snore, sleep-talk, or other), loudness values, session times, and any factors you log (e.g. alcohol, nasal strip) and notes or reclassifications you make.
  • App settings (e.g. sensitivity, "dim screen while recording") and your onboarding state.

We do not collect:

  • We do not upload, transmit, sell, or share your audio, clips, scores, or any recordings.
  • We do not require or create an account; we do not collect your name, email, or contacts.
  • We do not use advertising SDKs, analytics that identify you, or third-party trackers.
  • We do not collect location, health record, or biometric identity data.

Where your data lives

Your clips and history are stored in the app's private storage on your device. If you have iCloud Backup enabled, iOS may include the app's data in your personal, Apple-encrypted device backup — this is controlled by you and Apple, not by us, and we have no access to it. We operate no servers that store your content.

How your data is used

On-device data is used solely to provide the app's features to you: producing your morning report, playing back clips, computing scores and trends, and correlating the factors you log. Because processing is on-device, we the developer do not see this data.

Data sharing

We do not share your personal data with third parties. The only external party involved is Apple, and only for processing your subscription purchase and providing entitlement status (see Apple's Privacy Policy). No audio or recordings are ever sent to Apple or to us.

Data retention and deletion

  • Clips and history remain on your device until you delete them or delete the app.
  • The app auto-manages storage (e.g. caps and eviction of old or low-intensity clips) to protect device space.
  • You can erase all locally stored scores and clips at any time via Settings → Delete all local data in the app. Deleting the app also removes its data from your device.

Children's privacy

SnoreScout is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. The app collects no personal information off-device from any user.

Your rights

Because your data stays on your device and we do not collect it, you already control it directly: you can view, play, reclassify, or delete it in the app, and revoke microphone access in iOS Settings. Depending on where you live (e.g. GDPR/EEA, UK, CCPA/California), you may have additional statutory rights. Since we hold no personal data about you on our systems, there is typically nothing for us to retrieve or erase on our side. Contact contact@qolapps.org with any request or question.

Security

Data is stored using iOS app data protection on your device. Because nothing is transmitted to us, there is no server-side store of your content to breach.

Medical disclaimer

SnoreScout is not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, or screen for sleep apnea or any medical condition. Scores and classifications are informational estimates based on sound. If you have concerns about your breathing or sleep, consult a healthcare professional.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date on this page and, where appropriate, noted in the app.
