Last updated: May 17, 2026

For ScamSieve, an iPhone SMS/MMS filtering utility by QOL Apps. This policy explains how the app handles message filtering, local settings, purchases, and support.

Summary

ScamSieve does not collect, upload, sell, rent, or share your SMS/MMS message content. Unknown sender message classification runs locally on your device using Apple's IdentityLookup framework and ScamSieve's bundled deterministic rule engine.

  • No account or login.
  • No backend server.
  • No analytics SDK, advertising SDK, tracking SDK, Firebase, Supabase, or remote classifier.
  • No message body persistence by QOL Apps.
  • No message upload to QOL Apps or any third-party server.

What ScamSieve does

ScamSieve helps classify unknown sender SMS/MMS messages into categories such as scam, OTP safe, finance, delivery, promotion, loan, betting, crypto, job scam, unknown, and allow. The app uses local rule packs and custom rules to help users manage scam and spam patterns.

SMS filtering and Apple IdentityLookup

ScamSieve includes a Message Filter Extension using Apple's IdentityLookup framework. After you manually enable ScamSieve in iOS Settings, iOS may pass unknown sender SMS/MMS classification requests to the local ScamSieve extension so it can return a filtering category.

The extension classifies the sender and message body locally. Production builds do not log message bodies. Debug logging, when present during development, is redacted and limited to sender presence and message length.

Information stored locally

ScamSieve stores app configuration locally on your device so the main app and SMS filtering extension can share settings through the App Group group.com.qolapps.scamsieve. Local data may include:

  • Enabled or disabled rule packs.
  • Custom rules you create.
  • App settings, onboarding status, and setup guidance state.
  • Local StoreKit entitlement state for purchased features.

ScamSieve does not store a database of your SMS/MMS message bodies.

Message tester

The main app may include a local message tester so you can try sample text against the same classification engine used by the extension. Test input is processed on your device and is not uploaded to QOL Apps.

Rule packs

ScamSieve includes bundled local JSON rule packs for scam and phishing, OTP safety, bank and finance, courier and delivery, promotions, loan apps, betting and casino, crypto scams, job scams, and India UPI fraud. These rule packs are included with the app and are not downloaded from a server.

Purchases and subscriptions

ScamSieve may offer optional paid features through Apple's StoreKit, including lifetime unlock and annual subscription products. Purchases are processed by Apple. QOL Apps does not receive your payment card details or maintain a server-side purchase account.

The app reads StoreKit entitlements locally to unlock paid features. Subscription management, billing, refunds, and cancellation are handled through Apple and your Apple ID settings.

Third-party services

ScamSieve does not include third-party analytics, advertising, tracking, remote classifier, cloud database, or crash reporting SDKs. The app uses Apple system frameworks such as IdentityLookup, SwiftUI, StoreKit, and local storage APIs to provide its features.

Internet and network use

ScamSieve does not use a QOL Apps backend and does not upload message content to any server. StoreKit purchase flows and App Store services are handled by Apple. Links you choose to open, such as support email or QOL Apps pages, may use your browser or email app and are subject to those services' policies.

Permissions

ScamSieve requests only the permissions needed for its features:

  • SMS filtering: You must manually enable ScamSieve in iOS Settings before the Message Filter Extension can classify unknown sender SMS/MMS.
  • App Group storage: Used locally so the app and extension can share configuration.
  • No contacts, location, microphone, camera, photo library, or advertising ID access is required for core SMS filtering.

Data sharing and retention

QOL Apps does not sell, rent, trade, or share ScamSieve message data because ScamSieve does not collect message data on QOL Apps servers. Local settings remain on your device unless you export them, reset them, or delete the app.

Children

ScamSieve is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children or any other users.

Your choices

  • You can enable or disable ScamSieve SMS filtering in iOS Settings.
  • You can manage rule packs and custom rules inside the app.
  • You can reset local settings inside the app where supported.
  • You can delete the app to remove local app data from your device.
